Salary Tax Calculator
Seeing an annual salary on a job posting is useful, but it doesn’t tell you how much money you’ll actually take home.
Taxes and other deductions can make a noticeable difference between your gross salary and the amount that reaches your bank account. Our salary tax calculator gives you a quick estimate of what your take-home pay could look like.
How to use the calculator
Enter your annual salary and select your filing status. The calculator then estimates your federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare taxes.
You’ll see your estimated:
- Annual gross salary
- Federal income tax
- Social Security tax
- Medicare tax
- Annual take-home pay
- Monthly take-home pay
For example, if you’re comparing two dispatcher jobs with different salaries, looking at the estimated take-home amount can give you a better idea of how much the difference may actually mean for your budget.
Why is take-home pay lower than your salary?
Your advertised salary is generally your gross income — the amount you earn before taxes and other payroll deductions.
Your paycheck may also have deductions for things such as:
- Health insurance
- Retirement contributions
- State or local taxes
- Other employer benefits
These deductions vary from one person and employer to another, so the calculator provides an estimate rather than an exact paycheck amount.
What taxes does this calculator include?
The calculator currently estimates major federal payroll and income taxes, including federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare.
For 2026, federal income tax rates range from 10% to 37%, depending on your taxable income and filing status. Social Security and Medicare are calculated separately from federal income tax.
State and local taxes aren’t included because they vary depending on where you live.
Use it before comparing job offers
If you’re researching 911 dispatcher careers, try entering the salary from a job posting into the calculator. You can then compare different salaries and see how the estimated monthly take-home pay changes.
Just remember that your actual paycheck can be different because of state taxes, benefits, retirement contributions, tax credits, overtime, and other personal circumstances.
This calculator is intended for general estimates and isn’t a substitute for tax advice or an official payroll calculation.
